January into Frio February

 January to Frio February

Another two months have past us by and soon we will be getting ready to start packing the car up for the journey back home.

January was a cool month as winter seems to have come early this year as even us tough northerners are complaining of the cool nights and windy not real hot days. Each morning the temps are between 10-15 celcius and day times the high is like 21-25 so decent in the daytime just not super warm. The afternoons get windy and gust to 20-30 klm per hour and last into the early evenings and sometmes till 10:30-11, but it is still better than back home.

New Year fireworks were pretty good but think last years were better. We stayed at our place this year and enjoyed some nice appetisers beverages and Lasagna dinner then we enjoyed the 30 year old port we broght down with us and it was awesome.

January is Birthday month so we got together with10 of our friends to celebrate my 65th birthday as well as Darla's from October and our friend Tammy who turned 65 on the 18th of January and for Vern who turns 65 in May so was a special night.

Brent and Lachlan came dow to visit us and arrived on the 17th was so great to see them and had so much fun while they were here. Grandma got her fix and got to spend good qualityb time with him, unfortunately the heated pool never go fixed and with the cool temps the kids pool and adult pool was mucho frio ( very cold ). Last year when they were here he was learning the army crawl this year he was walking and jibber jabbering and started saying a few words Uh Oh was his favourite. Sadly with all visits they had to go back home to the very cool temps back in Yellowknife. Just after Brent left Friends Doug and Joan came for a visit and we had a great week out venturing around showing them Mazatlan, got to most of the major sites put plenty left is they come back down again to see.

I played in my first pickleball tournment with my Buddy Tim and we won our category so was happy about that as we were up against some giants as you can see in the pics below. We had allot of fun and laughs and now will play up another level or two next year.

We have been doing the usual stuff for February and had a few fun pickleball tourneys to play in as well as golfing the 3 times a week. We did a day trip out to a small town called La Noria about 35-40 minutes east of Mazatlan for the Tamale Festival, the town square was very vibrant as there were 10 -15 booths all selling their own take and flavours. The town itself is know for its leather works there are so many leather items for puchase but the most interesting were the saddles that the one shop made absolutely beautiful and not overly expensive like 800-1000 dollars. Our guide Miguel (who we always use to get around in a group for tours and to ball games and so on ) took us touring to see his stomping grounds as he is from the Area and has a rich family history. Was a great day as also saw a tequila distilery and Agave farm as well as a awesome lunch at a restaurent on the outskirts of town and saw tortia shells been made and a great lunch before heading home. Our friends from Aidrie were down for a couple months Dan and Tammy so lots of fune and some golf games with them as well. We were out to stone island 3-4 times this year with friends and always get into a friendly game of Bocce Ball which the local vendors have taken a loving to.We avoided the carnival this year as was busy but not super crazy like last years as it is like most one and done in the big crowds. Not sure where all the time goes but we are now into March and will s, tart the packing process to head home in the next couple weeks, said to friends hard to believe the 5 months are almost up as went by super fast this year. We have signed our lease for next year as will be back one more time before heading out on a new adventure so will be busy checking out places and looking for the next bit of excitemnet in a new location.
